“My muse is like this uncontrollable creature in the back of my skull that eats everything I see and feel and spits it back
out through my hands in one big mess that I get to figure out.” (Rex)
When you ask Rex what he needs to create his work, his answer is:
Anything, a medium, a method... But what has already become clear in his practice is that social contacts are generally important to spark motivation. Winter in the city, a period for reflection, connection, downscaling, and seeking warmth.
Visual artist Rex will be in residence at Archipel EXPO for the next month, focusing on spatial interventions, artistic
dialogue, and encounters with other disciplines. The focus is not so much on what is being created, but rather on how the
space will be activated. For this exhibition, Rex has set up a space for dialogue with other artists and creatives. Various
facilities are available for this artistic dialogue: from a projector and a sound installation to unpainted canvases. Rex takes an exploratory approach to exhibiting and presenting: he brings the process to the fore, and the exhibition is a caption of various intimate encounters of perishable nature. As visitor, you will be able to view the ever-changing exhibition between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. (December 13, 2025, to January 3, 2026): one shaped by the presentation of a collection of artworks, active collaborations, sculptural interventions, experimentation, and cross-disciplinary pollination with a focus on the immediate environment: archipel as site and studio.
BIO
A dynamic multidisciplinary artist, Rex spans an impressive range of mediums, including paintings, sculptures, masks,
installations and scenography. Creative output is deeply influenced by a vast array of sources, from the wonders of
nature to esoteric teachings, forgotten histories, and the worlds of pop and street culture, lowbrow art, and surrealism.
The artistic journey investigates the foundations of visual language, exploring ancient symbolism, human and animal
anatomy, and the realms of animism and ritual within contemporary art. The work is an ongoing exploration of
impermanence, reflecting on the transient nature of life and art. Driven by the belief that daily life profoundly shapes
creativity, there is a deep reliance on the subconscious, allowing spontaneous thoughts and hidden emotions to emerge throughout the artistic process.
