BabelConcert: Rubén Gorrion y su son & jam sessions

BabelFestival is a free summer festival at the BabelBühne. It is a green oasis in the fringes of the city, with a bamboo stage, grandstand and sunbeds around a well.

Tonight is a special evening, curated by a couple of young adventurer travelers: Singer-songwriterRuben Gorrion(Spain) & his loverAli Rapunzel Ramaekers(Antwerp),cook & tattoo artist.

Ruben Gorrionis a Spanish multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter who left his village at a very young age to travel the world with his cajón and guitar on his back.

For 15 years he has been singing and playing on the streets with great passion and earning his living and his freedom.

Rhythm is in his blood, as many people say. He turns every sound into a melody.

Over the years he played with various bands in large and small festivals. Tonight he plays with Daniel Ganzaléz on drums and Luc Sluyts on trumpet. He met them in Antwerp. 

His style reflects the travels he made and tastes of the countries he crossed.

On La Gomera he met his lover, Ali Rapoenzel Ramaekers from Antwerp.

After a year in Antwerp, the Zuiderzon calls and they are ready to leave, with the brand new family in a self-built house on wheels.

Luke Sluyts, took his first musical steps at the age of nine.

At the academy of Lier he completed the entire course in solfege, harmony and music history.

He performed as a soloist with, among others, "Carnaval de Venise" and Haydn's trumpet concerto.

In 1994 he joined several accompaniment orchestras for Night of the Proms, Helmut Lotti and others

Daniel Gonzalezis a Mexican drummer from the city of Cuernavaca Morelos, currently lives in Antwerp, lives from music as a percussionist and teacher, he played with Syndicato Sonico, among others.  

Ali RapunzelIn addition to being a talented tattoo artist, she is also a cook and transforms everything she gets under her fingers into a delicious meal.

Tonight they invite everyone to come and celebrate their departure and farewell at the BabelBühne. They do this with jam sessions with musician friends and a buffet made from organic vegetable surpluses.
