Nizar Saleh

Nizar Saleh is a photographer, video-artist and music producer moving between Kinshasa and Antwerp. He is a member of COLLECTIF FAIRE-PART, an ensemble of Belgian & Congolese filmmakers. After finishing his studies in visual ommunication and photography at Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa, Saleh made several short documentaries looking at Kinshasa’s art scene. His fictional and documentary work reflects on the relationship between people and their environment. He is deeply influenced by the colonial and post-colonial stories between Belgium and DR Congo, the people who live there and the many complex relations in between.  
Nizar works as a photographer and filmmaker with the Belgian Museum aan de Stroom (MAS) and AFRICA MUSEUM (Tervuren), creating content around the restitution of African artworks and artefacts and the restitution of human remains in private and public collections in Belgium. He has co-directed 12 award-winning documentaries including Bidon Vil (2018), Faire-Part (2019), In Vele Handen (2020), L'Escale (2022), I Heard They Change Color (2022) and Speech For A Melting Statue (2023). 
Nizar is also the co-founder of the production house ‘Kimpavita Films’ and co-producer of the music band KIN'gongolo Kiniata.

Nizar Saleh is fotograaf, videokunstenaar en muziekproducent en beweegt zich tussen Kinshasa en Antwerpen. Hij is lid van COLLECTIF FAIRE-PART, een ensemble van Belgische & Congolese filmmakers. Na zijn studies visuele communicatie en fotografie aan de fotografie aan de Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa, maakte Saleh verschillende korte documentaires over de kunstscène van Kinshasa. Zijn fictieve en documentaire werk reflecteert op de relatie tussen mensen en hun omgeving. Hij is diep beïnvloed door de koloniale en postkoloniale verhalen tussen België en DR Congo, de mensen die er wonen en de vele complexe relaties daartussen.  
Nizar werkt als fotograaf en filmmaker bij het Belgisch Museum aan de Stroom (MAS) en AFRICA MUSEUM (Tervuren), waar hij inhoud creëert rond de restitutie van Afrikaanse kunstwerken en artefacten en de restitutie van menselijke resten in privé- en openbare collecties in België. Hij was co-regisseur van 12 bekroonde documentaires waaronder Bidon Vil (2018), Faire-Part (2019), In Vele Handen (2020), L'Escale (2022), I Heard They Change Color (2022) en Speech For A Melting Statue (2023). 
Nizar is ook medeoprichter van het productiehuis 'Kimpavita Films' en coproducent van de muziekband KIN'gongolo Kiniata.
