Tijdens deze open salonavond nodigt Eva van Bemmelen buurtbewoners, nieuwsgierigen en kunstliefhebbers uit in Archipel voor een avond vol artist talks, ontmoeting en gesprek. Centraal staan de artistieke praktijken van de deelnemende kunstenaars én de artist-run initiatieven die zij daarnaast zelf opzetten in Antwerpen.

Vanuit hun eigen werkpraktijk vertellen de kunstenaars hoe ze ruimtes creëren voor experiment, presentatie, samenwerking en uitwisseling buiten de klassieke kunststructuren. De gemeenschappelijke noemer van de avond is dan ook het engagement van kunstenaars die niet alleen werk maken, maar ook actief bouwen aan nieuwe plekken en netwerken voor kunst en ontmoeting, zoals Think Thonk, T-Space, Archipel en Projectspace van A tot Z.

Eva van Bemmelen — Projectspace van A tot Z

Eva van Bemmelen is beeldend kunstenaar en werkt rond taal, typografie, publicatievormen en ruimtelijke installaties. In haar praktijk onderzoekt ze hoe we lezen, kijken en communiceren, en hoe tekst en beeld voortdurend nieuwe betekenissen kunnen genereren afhankelijk van context, vorm en ruimte.

Naast haar artistieke praktijk initieert ze Projectspace van A tot Z, een nieuw artist-run initiatief in Antwerpen Noord.

Mara Harbon (Think Thonk)

Mara Harbon (2001, Los Angeles) woont en werkt in Antwerpen. In haar praktijk benadert ze schilderkunst als een vorm van psychische archeologie, waarbij fragmenten van mythes en herinneringen worden opgegraven om composities opnieuw te ensceneren. Haar werk beweegt tussen identiteit, rouw en verlangen, en gebruikt fragmentatie als een eerlijke vorm van expressie.

Naast haar artistieke praktijk licht Mara ook Think Thonk toe, een artist-run initiatief dat experimentele vormen van samenwerking, presentatie en ontmoeting onderzoekt.

Delta van Melle (T-Space)

Delta van Melle werkt rond thema’s zoals fermentatie, groei en transformatie. Met materialen als kombucha, hout, glas en gevonden tekeningen onderzoekt hen hoe lichamen zich aanpassen, verzetten en bewegen binnen opgelegde structuren.

Daarnaast richtte Delta in 2024 T-Space op in de Seefhoek in Antwerpen: een artist-run projectruimte met vier studio’s en een kleine galerie die ruimte biedt aan queer, femme-presenting en andere gemarginaliseerde kunstenaars.

Bram Rombouts (Archipel / RooftopTiger)

Bram Rombouts (1975) is een autodidactisch beeldend kunstenaar die performatieve installaties, scenografieën, kinetische installaties en site-specifiek werk maakt. Zijn praktijk vertrekt vanuit interactie: de installatie wordt protagonist, de toeschouwer antagonist.

Hij werkt voornamelijk met gerecycleerde materialen zoals staal, hout en steen, en zijn werk balanceert tussen beeldende kunst, performance en ruimtelijke ingrepen in de publieke ruimte. Zijn creaties werden getoond op internationale festivals zoals Zomer van Antwerpen, Oerol Festival en Castlemaine State Festival.

Rombouts is medeoprichter van Archipel. Tijdens de avond vertelt hij over deze artist-run initiatieven en het belang van collectieve werkingen binnen de Antwerpse kunstscene.

Eva invites — meet local artists at Archipel

During this open salon evening, Eva van Bemmelen invites neighbours, curious visitors and art lovers to Archipel for an evening of artist talks, encounters and conversation. Central to the evening are the artistic practices of the participating artists, as well as the artist-run initiatives they have established alongside their own work in Antwerp.

Drawing from their individual practices, the artists will speak about how they create spaces for experimentation, presentation, collaboration and exchange outside of traditional art structures. The common thread throughout the evening is the engagement of artists who not only make work, but also actively build new places and networks for art and community, such as Think Thonk, T-Space, Archipel and Projectspace van A tot Z.

Eva van Bemmelen — Projectspace van A tot Z

Eva van Bemmelen is a visual artist working with language, typography, publishing formats and spatial installations. Her practice explores how we read, look and communicate, and how text and image continuously generate new meanings depending on context, form and space.

Alongside her artistic practice, she is initiating Projectspace van A tot Z, a new artist-run initiative in Antwerp North.

Mara Harbon (Think Thonk)

Mara Harbon (2001, Los Angeles) lives and works in Antwerp. In her practice, she approaches painting as a form of psychic archaeology, excavating fragments of myth and memory to re-stage compositions. Her work moves between identity, grief and desire, using fragmentation as an honest form of expression.

Alongside her artistic practice, Mara will also introduce Think Thonk, an artist-run initiative exploring experimental forms of collaboration, presentation and gathering.

Delta van Melle (T-Space)

Delta van Melle works around themes such as fermentation, growth and transformation. Using materials such as kombucha, wood, glass and found drawings, they explore how bodies adapt, resist and move within imposed structures.

In 2024, Delta also founded T-Space in Antwerp’s Seefhoek neighbourhood: an artist-run project space with four studios and a small gallery supporting queer, femme-presenting and other marginalized artists.

Bram Rombouts (Archipel / RooftopTiger)

Bram Rombouts (1975) is a self-taught visual artist creating performative installations, scenographies, kinetic installations and site-specific works. His practice is centred around interaction: the installation becomes the protagonist, the viewer the antagonist.

He mainly works with recycled materials such as steel, wood and stone, balancing between visual art, performance and spatial interventions in public space. His work has been presented at international festivals including Zomer van Antwerpen, Oerol Festival and Castlemaine State Festival.

Rombouts is co-founder of Archipel. During the evening, he will speak about these artist-run initiatives and the importance of collective practices within Antwerp’s art scene.
