BabelPutch: Stiques and the wave + Ruth-Marie and band

BabelFestival is a free summer festival at the BabelBühne. A green oasis in the frayed edges of the city, with a bamboo stage, grandstand and sun loungers around a well.

On Friday evenings, young curators and their artists hijack the site with Urban Sounds, vocal beatboxes & beats, while the cooking pots smell of culinary herbs from all over the world.

Stiques and the Wavecome to warm us up, the band around Majesty Stiqler, from Nigeria and newcomer to the Dam since 2 years. When he's not on stage, somewhere in the world, you'll find him bartender DoDo in the BabelBar. Stiques is one of Africa's hidden musical gems. He is an eclectic

singer/performer/producer/audio engineer/songwriter/music composer/sound design artist, based in Antwerp and Amsterdam. He brings 'Afro Street Soul': Afrobeats and Soul and a little psychedelia...

Ruth-Marie& bring band tonight Eastern - African fusion with a pinch of psychedelics: 

Ruth-Marieis an electronic indie-pop band centered around the singer-songwriterRuth-Marie, with Antwerp and Mechelen as home bases. Together with bassist/guitarist and partnerMenno Buggenhout(His Trust Fund, Undskyld) and drummerMathias Ghesquiere(Pardon Service) Ruth-Marie brings a surprising mix of social criticism and intimacy in a wonderful bath of vocal loops, psychedelic synths, supporting basses and driving beats.

The Antwerp songwriter Ruth-Marie has been writing cabaret and sing-song pop for years, and was also in the finals of Imagine Festival and Talent der Lage Landen in 2011. Many years later, in the isolation of 2020, she found a new voice and sound in electronic synths and beats. Her lyrics are an uncensored look at her innermost thoughts – from lust on the dance floor to her anger at climate mismanagement.

A surprise DJ will close the evening!

Come discover what motapaqa, fattoush and fatteh are. Ahmed Alhamid makes lentil soup with various Syrian side dishes, (motapaqa = eggplant, tomato, onion dish, fattoush = mixed salad, fatteh = chickpea salad with yogurt sauce).
