BabelBad: Poetry & Pizza: Tülin Erkan and guests
Multilingual outdoor poetry happening. Opening ceremony with Aleksandr Vasilevich, then Vonk & Zonen put WATLAB on stage: Tülin Erkan, Hans Depelchin & Dieter de Schutter color the evening in sound and image, followed by an Open Poetry Stage with host Maud Vanhauwaert & homemade pizza.

Over het evenement
BabelFestival is a free summer festival at the BabelBühne, a green oasis in the fringes of the city, with a bamboo stage, grandstand & lignets around a well.
Under the motto Poetry & Pizza: Every two weeks on Thursday evening enjoy pizza from the wood-fired clay oven & multilingual poetry happenings. A performance by a foreign-language poet with an original translation into another art discipline (dance, image, music), followed by an Open Poetry Stage with host Maud Vanhauwaert.

The phrase of the poet for the open poetry stage, you may submit your own text, which is somehow inspired by our poet's verse. If your text is chosen, you can bring it to our stage on Thursday. We will keep you informed by e-mail at the latest on Tuesday 9 August.

We open the evening with a text by Aleksandr Vasilevich. He is the founder of an online newspaper, gallery owner and now a political prisoner in Belarus. From prison, he writes fairy tales for his daughter, Adèle, to keep courage and not to lose hope, and above all to remain a human being.
The Writing Apart Together Lab, or theWATLABstarted as an author's shared dreamCarmen MichelsandSPARK & Sons. ItWATLABbecame a studio, a breeding ground, a laboratory where every maker can go day and night. Since the autumn of 2021, a diverse group of multidisciplinary makers have resided there, each working on their own projects. A selection of them will color this evening, musically assisted by a special guest.
Tulin Erkan(1988) is a writer from Ostend who lives and works in Antwerp. In November 2021, her debut novel 'Honingeter' was released under Pelckmans publishers. In addition to being a writer, Tülin is an editor and copywriter. 'Honingeater' connects mother tongue with fatherland and is a cinematic text, in which the story is presented in fragments. The novel is set in Istanbul airport, a place of transit where the three characters – Sibel, Ömer and Wernicke – meet and live together in this microcosm. Tülin became a finalist of the Rode Oor 2021, a writing competition by deBuren on the theme of eroticism.
Dieter De Schutter(1992) is an illustrator. He uses a clear and dynamic visual language for his illustrations. His work has won several awards, including Greenhouse's first prize at Nami Concour 2021's GRAFIXX 'Purple Island' comics festival in South Korea. In 2019 he went on a writing residency in Paris with Flemish-Dutch house deBuren. Dieter illustrated, among other things, the children's book 'Het Wispelturig Windorkest' and the collection of poems 'Pluimweight'.
Hans Depelchinis a writer, performer, imaginer, fabricator and symbolizer. He studied comparative modern literature (UGent) and drama word art (Royal Conservatory Antwerp). After numerous publications in literary magazines, he made his debut in 2020 with the turbulent city novelmollusk(Publisher De Geus). On June 12, 2022, he will publish his first collection of poemstension beltin front of. In his spare time he is engaged in teaching, wandering, moving, reading, watching and stumbling. His favorite philosopher is Thales of Miletus, who so fixed his gaze on the firmament that he fell into a deep pit.
