PENis an organization that works worldwide for free expression, peace and international understanding.PENstands up for authors or journalists who are threatened, persecuted, imprisoned or tried because of what they wrote.

We open the evening with an empty chair and a poem byPerhat Tursun. He is one of the most influential Uyghur novelists. He disappeared in 2017.  In his poems, Perhat Tursun writes about love, life in the city and destiny.

Captain Blaise Fotsois a poet and human rights activist and has been living in Belgium since 2012. In Cameroon, he worked as a businessman in the food industry and participated in the activities of La Ronde des Poètes (the Poet's Round) in Yaounde. From 2006 he started to focus more and more on literature and wrote an article about the fight against corruption in Cameroon. His poetry debut in 2010, 'The Axes of Violence', denounces the excesses and terror in his country. The bundle signaled the start of problems due to its 'irreverent' content, and Kaptue decided to leave Cameroon.

In Belgium, Kaptue is a founding member of the African International Institute for Peace (AFIIP), which organizes literary gatherings and conferences on peace and democracy. From his new homeland he continues to fight for democracy and freedom and for a political, economic and cultural humanism in Africa and the world.

Amina Barrywas born 37 years ago in Guinea Conakry and lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium. She has been a dancer since her early childhood. A daughter of the Peulh people (also known as Fula), she specializes in the tribal dances of Fouta Djallon, a highland area in central Guinea.

Maximilien Atangana in civil registry,Jah Mae Kan: The pseudonym or, more accurately, the "word mask" of a poet, slammer and musician, born in Paris to Cameroonian parents. After emigrating back to Africa at the age of four, the young man returned to Europe twelve years later.

Jah Mae Kân, as in Negro-African traditions, considers a poem as a visual word intended for public performance. He thus musically introduces the reading-performance in order to democratize literary practice. In the context of lifelong learning, our poet-animator performs in cafes, schools, youth centers, public libraries, etc.
