Yasmine Akondo

The core theme in Yasmine's artistic practice is existence itself. The concept of life and death. Although these are very abstract words, which mean everything and nothing, this is precisely her area of interest. This is translated into sculptures, installations and performances.

She recently decided to transform her practice into an artistic research project because she is looking for a valuable extension in which her work becomes socially relevant. She does this by creating a series of performances in which interaction and participation are of paramount importance.

In addition, she seeks a common space and a collective need: the need for the essence of life, balance, self-awareness and peace, ... centred on ritual, Zen and movement.

And, of course, this need is also questioned. Her research is based on ancient histories, philosophies and cultures, mainly focused on Buddhism and ritual.
She is looking for an accessible approach to art and, in this quest, she wonders about the connections and differences between art and culture.

We exist only to learn. To be present and conscious. To live with full awareness.
